Surgeons reviewing spine X-rays in an Ethiopian hospital

Our Impact

Numbers tell part of the story. Lives tell the rest.

Every dollar raised is traceable to a surgery, a scholarship, or a piece of infrastructure that keeps the work going long after the gala lights go down.

How the work happens

Three pillars. One outcome.

01

Surgical care

Direct funding for complex spine and heart surgeries — both in Ethiopia and, for the most complex cases, abroad. Each surgery restores mobility, dignity, and a future to a child who otherwise had none.

02

Capacity outreach

Through the UBC Branch for Global Surgical Care, we fund nursing scholarships, surgical skills training, and research grants — so Ethiopian teams can do more, sooner, on their own.

03

The Spine Centre

The long-horizon goal: an advanced Spine Centre in Ethiopia with the capacity and expertise to handle complex cases in-country. Endorsed and supported by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.

Every surgery funded is a child who walks again, a family restored, a community strengthened.

Where your dollars go

Transparent, by design.

BBH operates with a lean structure, donated services, and volunteer leadership — so the overwhelming majority of every gift goes directly to programs in Ethiopia.

  • 73% Direct programs — surgeries, training, equipment
  • 17% Long-term infrastructure — the Spine Centre
  • 10% Operations & fundraising
